Module 1: Foundations of Transformative Coaching

Laying the Groundwork for Depth, Presence, and Professional Practice

Module 1 marks the beginning of your journey into transformative coaching. Rather than offering a set of scripts or techniques, this module introduces the core principles, skills, and frameworks that underpin how transformative coaching is experienced — relationally, ethically, and psychologically.

Across two days of live, experiential learning, you will explore what coaching truly is, how it differs from advice-giving or problem-solving, and what it means to create a space where clients can think, feel, and inquire in new ways. You will be introduced to the 12 Principles of Transformative Coaching, the OCEAN session structure, and the foundational assumptions that shape our approach.

You will begin developing the essential skills of presence, deep listening, curiosity, contracting, and working with unknowing — learning how to hold a coaching conversation with clarity, spaciousness, and respect. Contracting is introduced through the FOCUS model, helping you set up sessions ethically and collaboratively. Throughout, you will practise in pairs and triads, building confidence through real dialogue rather than role-play scripts.

This is also where your coaching presence begins to take shape: how you show up in conversation, the quality of attention you offer, and the way you begin to create trust and psychological safety. By the end of Module 1, you will have a grounded understanding of the core elements of transformative coaching and a strong foundation for the deeper identity, systemic, and meaning-level work that unfolds in later modules.

Module 2: Shaping Reality – Beliefs, Worldviews & Meaning

Exploring How People Make Sense of Their World

Module 2 deepens your journey into transformative coaching by examining how clients interpret their experiences through beliefs, assumptions, and personal narratives. Every individual operates from an internal map of meaning—often unconscious—that shapes how they think, feel, and act. This module equips you to coach at that deeper level.

You will explore how paradigms are formed, how worldviews influence behaviour, and how shifts in meaning can open the door to genuine transformation. Drawing on cognitive theory, adult development, and Mezirow’s transformative learning, you will learn to help clients surface implicit beliefs, question long-held assumptions, and consider new perspectives with honesty and curiosity.

This is also the point where you begin to work with relational contracting using the CONTRACT model. While the FOCUS model in Module 1 helps structure individual sessions, the CONTRACT framework supports you in establishing a clear, ethical, and collaborative foundation for the overall coaching relationship. You will learn how to set expectations, boundaries, responsibilities, and mutual commitments in a way that feels transparent, human, and supportive of the work ahead.

Throughout the module, you will practise advanced questioning, reframing, and perspective-shifting techniques in small groups, applying them to real issues and experiences rather than hypothetical scenarios. You will learn to hold the balance between deep inquiry and practical movement—helping clients translate insight into meaningful action without rushing or steering.

By the end of Module 2, you will be equipped to coach clients in understanding how they see the world, why they hold the beliefs they do, and what might become possible when those beliefs evolve—all within a well-contracted, ethical, and relationally grounded coaching partnership.

Module 3: Holding the Whole — Person, Body, Context, System

Coaching the Interconnected Layers of Human Experience

Module 3 expands your lens as a coach, inviting you to work with clients as whole, complex beings who exist within—and are shaped by—multiple layers of relationships, environments, and internal experiences. You will learn to coach beyond thoughts and goals, attending to the interplay of mind, body, emotion, and context.

Drawing on humanistic psychology, existential thought, somatic awareness, and systemic thinking, this module explores how clients’ challenges and possibilities are embedded within wider patterns. These patterns may arise from family systems, organisational cultures, social contexts, or internal structures such as values, emotions, and bodily cues.

You will learn how to notice and work with what is happening beneath the surface: shifts in energy, emotional tone, somatic signals, relational dynamics, and systemic influences that shape the client’s lived experience. Rather than separating “inner” and “outer” worlds, you will begin to hold them as interconnected and mutually shaping.

Practice throughout the module is highly experiential. You will work in triads to explore somatic presence, emotional attunement, and systemic inquiry, learning how to invite clients into fuller awareness of themselves in context. You will also learn to map systems, explore patterns of influence, and recognise the relational fields in which clients live and work.

By the end of Module 3, you will be able to hold a client’s experience with greater depth, nuance, and range—attending to their full humanity and the systems they move within. This expanded awareness prepares you for the complex and ambiguous terrain you will explore in Module 4.

Module 4: Coaching in Complexity — Ambiguity, Emergence, Paradox

Working When There Is No Clear Path Forward

Module 4 introduces you to one of the most challenging and profound territories of transformative coaching: supporting clients when clarity is absent, answers are uncertain, and multiple truths coexist. Many of the issues clients bring to coaching are not linear problems to solve, but complex, layered, and sometimes contradictory experiences. This module helps you meet that reality with confidence, spaciousness, and trust in emergence.

You will explore what it means to coach in the midst of ambiguity—where goals are fluid, tensions exist between competing desires, or a client’s situation cannot be neatly defined. Drawing on phenomenology, paradox theory, and systemic perspectives, you will learn how to hold space without rushing towards resolution, and how to help clients explore complexity without becoming overwhelmed by it.

Throughout the module, you will practise working with open-ended inquiry, both/and thinking, and the discipline of staying with what is arising rather than seeking premature clarity. You will learn to listen for complexity in a client’s language, notice layered identities and conflicting impulses, and invite exploration of the different parts of their experience.

Coaching practice takes place in triads and through guided demonstrations, allowing you to experience what it feels like to sit in uncertainty and facilitate depth without a predetermined outcome. You will also explore the relational challenges that arise in ambiguity—how to remain steady, grounded, and attuned even when the path forward is unclear.

By the end of Module 4, you will have developed a wider tolerance for uncertainty and a deeper trust in emergence. You will be able to coach with sensitivity and confidence when clients are navigating complexity, paradox, or change that does not yet have form—an essential capability for transformative practice.

Module 5: Becoming and Being — Coaching the Self

Working at the Level of Identity, Story, and Human Growth

Module 5 shifts the focus from what clients do to who they are and who they are becoming. This is where transformative coaching moves into its deepest terrain: selfhood, narrative, meaning, and identity-level change. Many clients arrive in coaching not simply to solve problems, but to understand themselves more fully, navigate transitions in who they are, and explore how they want to live in the world. This module prepares you to hold that kind of work with sensitivity, depth, and skill.

Drawing on narrative identity theory, dialogical self theory, existential ideas, and elements of Transactional Analysis, you will explore how identity is shaped through stories, relationships, roles, and the internal “voices” that make up the self. You will learn how to help clients make sense of these layers—inviting them to examine how their stories influence their choices, how their internal dialogues guide their actions, and how new possibilities for becoming can emerge.

You will practise coaching clients at the level of identity, exploring themes such as life transitions, changing roles, conflicting inner voices, and evolving senses of purpose. Through triad coaching, narrative practices, and experiential exercises, you will learn to support clients in re-authoring aspects of their story, recognising patterns that no longer serve them, and stepping into new ways of being.

Throughout the module, you’ll also begin to notice your own identity as a coach emerging more clearly—your voice, your values, and your natural ways of relating. This helps you understand the relational field you create with clients, and how your way of being shapes what becomes possible in the coaching space.

By the end of Module 5, you will be able to coach with confidence at the level of identity and becoming, helping clients understand themselves more deeply and move towards ways of being that align with their values, meaning, and evolving sense of self.

Module 6: The Emergent Practitioner: Integrating Self, Relationship, and Practice

Stepping Into Your Practice With Clarity, Confidence, and Ethical Maturity

Module 6 brings your learning journey together. Rather than introducing new models or tools, this module focuses on integration — looking across everything you have studied, practised, discovered, and become. It is an opportunity to reflect deeply on your growth, explore your evolving identity as a coach, and prepare to step into professional practice with groundedness and clarity.

Through group dialogue and breakouts, you will examine how the 12 Principles of Transformative Coaching have become part of your way of working, noticing where you feel strong, where you feel stretched, and where you feel called to continue growing.

A significant part of the module is dedicated to relationality in practice, including psychodynamic ideas such as transference, countertransference, and parallel process. You will explore how the relational field between coach and client can reveal valuable information, deepen the work, and offer insight into both the client’s patterns and your own ways of relating.

You will also begin to articulate your emerging coaching identity — your ethos, your voice, and the qualities that make your practice distinctly your own. Through reflective dialogues and triad coaching, you will explore what feels authentic to you, what you have discovered about how you work, and which aspects of your presence you want to cultivate further.

Ethics and ethical maturity are explored through the lens of real practice. Rather than teaching rules alone, this module invites you to engage with ethical dilemmas and professional judgement, using Carroll’s model of ethical maturity to understand how coaches grow in wisdom, discernment, and integrity.

Finally, you will look ahead to the next steps in your coaching journey — reviewing your mentoring, client hours, and assessment requirements, and clarifying your pathway toward accreditation. You will take time to reflect on what brought you to the programme, what has changed, and what you now imagine for your practice.

By the end of Module 6, you will have a coherent sense of your development, your identity as a transformative coach, and the relational, ethical, and professional capacities that will sustain your ongoing growth long beyond the programme.

Personal Coach Mentoring

Personalised Development Through Honest, Insightful Dialogue

Mentoring is woven into your learning journey from the early stages of the programme. Rather than being an administrative requirement or a final step toward accreditation, it is a deeply reflective, personalised space where your coaching practice is explored with care, curiosity, and rigour.

Across six private mentoring sessions (totalling 10 hours), you will work one-to-one with an experienced ICF-credentialed Mentor Coach. Together, you will listen to recordings of your coaching sessions, pausing, noticing, and exploring the moments that reveal your strengths, your patterns, and your evolving coaching identity.

This developmental process focuses not only on the ICF Core Competencies, but on the 12 Principles of Transformative Coaching, helping you understand how these principles are showing up in your real practice. You will explore your presence, your relational style, your ability to hold space, and the ways you work with unknowing, emergence, and meaning.

This tailored mentoring process allows you to:

  • Receive thoughtful, in-depth feedback rooted in both professional competencies and the principles of transformative practice.
  • Develop greater awareness of your coaching presence, relational dynamics, and habits of mind.
  • Explore your unique coaching voice, rather than trying to fit a particular style or formula.
  • Build confidence in your choices, your judgement, and your ability to work with depth and nuance.

  • Meet the ICF’s 10-hour mentoring requirement for Level 2 accreditation as part of a broader integrative developmental process.

Mentoring offers something rare: a non-judgemental, spacious relationship dedicated entirely to your growth as a coach. It is where the craft of coaching becomes more intentional, where your identity begins to take shape, and where insight turns into embodied practice.

The Coaching Clinic: Group Supervision

Where challenges become insights, and community fuels your growth.

The Coaching Clinic is a facilitated group supervision space where you’ll bring real coaching challenges, questions, and experiences into reflective dialogue with fellow students and an experienced Coaching Supervisor.

More than just problem-solving, this is a space for deep professional inquiry — exploring the nuances of coaching practice, your internal responses as a coach, and the ethical or relational dynamics that arise in sessions.

Through group supervision, you will:

  • Unpack real coaching scenarios to gain perspective, clarity, and direction.

  • Engage in shared learning by witnessing the reflections and challenges of your peers.

  • Develop coaching maturity by exploring what lies beneath techniques — including mindset, presence, and professional boundaries.

  • Build resilience and confidence through honest conversation in a supportive, non-judgemental space.

  • Strengthen your reflective practice, a hallmark of transformative coaching.

Held regularly throughout the course, The Coaching Clinic supports your ongoing evolution — ensuring you don’t just learn coaching, but become a coach.

Inside the Practice Cafe, you’ll:

  • Coach and be coached in structured sessions with peers who understand your learning journey.

  • Receive immediate feedback that sharpens your skills and raises your self-awareness.

  • Observe others coaching to expand your perspective and spot new approaches.

  • Experience diverse coaching styles, gaining insight into your own evolving voice.

Whether you’re fine-tuning foundational skills or stepping into more complex conversations, The Practice Cafe keeps your learning grounded in live, embodied experience — where real transformation begins.

Coaching Competency Conversations

From theory to practice: decode the ICF competencies in real coaching contexts.

These monthly discussion groups are your chance to go beyond abstract checklists and live into the International Coaching Federation’s Core Competencies. Together with fellow coaches and experienced facilitators, you’ll explore one competency at a time — not just in theory, but in how it shows up in real coaching moments.

This is where the competencies stop being rules and start becoming resources to help you deepen your practice, solve coaching challenges, and reflect on your development with clarity and purpose.

In these sessions, you will:

  • Demystify the ICF framework by unpacking one competency per session.

  • Explore how each competency shows up in real-life scenarios, dilemmas, and sessions.

  • Share challenges and insights, drawing on peer learning and group wisdom.

  • Strengthen your ability to self-assess and align with ICF standards.

  • Develop a more embodied, confident understanding of ethical and effective coaching.

Whether you’re working toward ICF accreditation or simply refining your craft, Coaching Competency Conversations help you connect the dots between principle and practice — one thoughtful conversation at a time.

The Animas Campus

A dedicated space for connection, reflection, and ongoing growth.

The Animas Campus is your home base throughout the programme — a private, thoughtfully designed digital space that supports your learning long after each module ends. More than a repository of resources, the Campus is where community, conversation, and reflection can unfold between live sessions.

Inside your cohort’s private area, you’ll find everything you need to stay grounded and organised in your learning journey: module recordings, schedules, links, reflective guides, reading recommendations, mission prompts, and updates from your faculty. It’s also a place where you can stay connected with your peers, share insights, ask questions, and support each other as your practice evolves.

Beyond your cohort, the Campus opens into the wider Animas community. You’ll gain access to alumni spaces such as Coaches Uncaged — a thriving hub for business development and professional growth — offering workshops, interviews, discussions, and resources to support your coaching practice. • Revisit teachings through recordings, notes, and resource libraries.

  • Access live sessions and asynchronous content designed to deepen your practice.
