From Narrative to Nervous System: Evidence-based behaviour analysis for deeper self-discovery
What might become possible if we learned to notice more of what is happening in the room?
Coaching is often thought of as a conversational practice, but conversation is never only verbal.
Changes in breathing, posture, facial movement, gaze, gesture, voice, and other physiological responses can all form part of a client’s lived experience. Yet despite decades of research into nonverbal behaviour and psychophysiology, many coaches have had relatively little opportunity to explore this field systematically.
In our upcoming guest lecture, From Narrative to Nervous System: Evidence-Based Behaviour Analysis for Deeper Self-Discovery, Danny Greeves, Founder of Non-Verbal Aces, will introduce an evidence-based approach to observing and working with nonverbal behaviour.
Danny holds two Master’s degrees in the field of behaviour and communication, is FACS certified, lectures on nonverbal behaviour at Evidentia University of behavioural and forensic sciences, has authored peer-reviewed research, and has maintained a private coaching practice since 2015.
Across the 90-minute lecture and Q&A, Danny will introduce the Nonverbal ACEs model, exploring Arousal, Cognition, and Emotional Processing as a framework for noticing what may be happening beneath the spoken narrative.
He will also explore the 10 channels of nonverbal behaviour, from facial expression and gesture to vocalics, gaze, posture, and psychophysiology.
Importantly, this is not about becoming an expert at interpreting somebody else from the outside.
Danny’s ONCE protocol – Observe, Notice, Connect, Enquire/Educate – offers a way of bringing observations into a conversation while resisting the temptation to decide what they mean for the client.
That distinction feels particularly important within a coaching context.
The observation belongs to the practitioner. The meaning belongs to the client.
Participants will also explore the 5 Es framework – Educate, Embody, Engage, Experientialise, Empower – alongside practical examples of how nonverbal observation can be integrated with an existing coaching approach.
Whether you are an experienced coach looking to deepen your observational awareness, a practitioner interested in the relationship between body and mind, or simply curious about the extraordinary amount human beings communicate without words, this lecture offers a fascinating additional lens through which to understand the coaching conversation.
