Julia Rogers is an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC), a Senior Practitioner with the EMCC, and a qualified coaching supervisor. With over 2,500 hours of coaching experience, she brings a wealth of expertise to her work with coaches, leaders, and organisations. Her approach is grounded in psychodynamic thinking, drawing from Freud and other psychoanalytic theorists to help clients uncover the unconscious dynamics that shape their professional relationships and development.

Julia runs a thriving private practice offering coaching, supervision, and advanced training for coaches. She mentors coaches at all stages of their development and is known for blending academic rigour with practical, real-world insight. Her work is particularly focused on self-awareness, relational dynamics, and the unseen patterns that influence our behaviour — themes she explores in her podcast, The Dynamics of Everyday Life.

As a course creator and facilitator, Julia designs and delivers accredited training for experienced coaches who want to deepen their understanding of psychodynamic concepts. She has written and delivered several courses accredited by the ICF, EMCC and AC. She also regularly leads masterclasses, speaks at events, and contributes thought leadership on the integration of coaching and psychodynamic theory.

With a background in leadership roles across social care and mental health services, Julia has extensive experience in managing teams, complex projects, and frontline services. Her clients today include senior leaders and coaches working across a wide range of sectors, from corporate organisations to the not-for-profit space.

Coaching the Loop: Understanding the Repetition Compulsion with Julia Rogers

Do you ever feel like a client is stuck in a loop—repeating the same patterns in their work, relationships, or decision-making?

You’re not alone. In this presentation, Julia Rogers introduces the psychodynamic concept of repetition compulsion—the unconscious drive to recreate familiar (and often unhelpful) dynamics and situations.

Far from being confined to the therapy room, these patterns frequently emerge in coaching conversations.

Julia will guide participants through:

  • How to recognise when a client is caught in a repetitive pattern
  • How these dynamics can subtly play out within the coaching relationship itself
  • Key psychodynamic perspectives on the repetition compulsion
  • How to work effectively with these patterns—without stepping into therapy territory

Blending psychodynamic insights with practical coaching reflections and real-life examples, this session offers a rich exploration of a common yet often overlooked phenomenon. Coaches will leave with new understanding, fresh strategies, and tangible takeaways for their practice.
