Phenomenological Stance of Transformative Coaching
In this final talk of the Transformative Coaching Series, Nick will explore the beating heart of all coaching and of transformative coaching in particular: the phenomenological stance.
He will explore how phenomenology represents an attitude of radical unknowing on the part of the coach.
Our job is not to know but to discover, to unearth, to explore, open up, reveal. And it is the client’s perceived truth and its scope for change that is at the subject of this deep inquiry.
Finally, to close out the first part of this series, Nick will raise the question of how open coaches are to truly unknowing and whether some recent moves in coaching are a sign that the centrality of the client’s experience is being replaced by a set of ethical imperatives around which parts of the coaching profession are cohering.
