Coaching Teachers Through a Pandemic; In Conversation with Dr. Keith Watson

Author : Jack Fleming

14th August 2021

Creating Space is believed to be the first programme of its kind in the UK offering free coaching, in partnership with award-winning charity Yes Futures, to support the wellbeing of teachers throughout the pandemic. The programme convened an enriching breadth of coaching experience that has already received enormously positive feedback from the participating teachers.

One of the chief curators and integral figures of the programme is Dr Keith Watson, an Animas coach with a vast and colourful career of over 30 years in education. Keith played a pivotal role, working closely in a mentoring capacity alongside our Head of Social Impact, Emma Koubayssi as she designed and developed Creating Space. Keith continues to be integral to shaping the learning reflections for furthering the role of coaching in the education space.

“Capturing individual and overall feedback is crucial for documenting the successes, for presenting why the programme is needed, and as a body of impact evidence to present to policymakers."

Keith blends best practice and insights together with wider reflections for furthering the value of coaching in education. I help people to help themselves to get better at their job and their life. Having spent 20 years in leadership at one of the most successful schools in the country I am now using my knowledge to help professionals and organisations to create a coaching culture, within education and beyond. I have researched, published and presented nationally on how coaching can lead to excellence.

With vast experience of the educational sector, including as a CEO of a primary academy trust and the leader of a Teaching Schools that was at the forefront of innovation, I now use that knowledge as an educational consultant and personal development coach to help individuals and organisations to flourish. I relish speaking at national conferences, writing for journals and on-line platforms and engaging with a range of clients. Holding an Animas Diploma in Transformational Coaching, I now also work with a number of personal clients. My passion is for developing people towards achieving success in their life and I see every day as an opportunity to do that.
