About Animas Centre for Coaching

Who we are

At the heart of Animas is a drive to explore what it is to be human and how to live well today. We do this by providing transformative coach training and development, and by leading inquiry into the future of coaching and the application of transformative theory to coaching and wider society.

Transformative coaching creates the space for people to work on their current challenges and goals, as well as exploring the big questions we all face, such as: ‘What should I do with my life?’ Our training equips our students to look at a client’s worldview and notice how that is shaping their experience of life, their behaviour, and the results they are getting. This kind of coaching brings about significant and lasting change, and supports the kind of inquiry people are bringing to coaches today.

Whilst our approach is transformative, all of our training is broad, integrative and psychologically-grounded. We foster a culture of participation and collaboration both in the training room, within our thriving student community, and within the coaching profession through our events and webinars.

With our strong relationship with the professional coaching bodies, we deliver accredited training in Transformational Coaching, Coaching SupervisionProfessional Credentialing, and a range of Specialist Short Courses for qualified coaches.

Our Core Team

Nick Bolton

Founder & CEO

Nick Bolton is the Founder and Director of Animas.

Nick steers Animas toward our vision and mission to lead the field of transformative coaching. Having been involved in the coaching world since 2000, Nick is passionate about the profession and believes that coaching's contribution to personal and organisational change have barely begun to be realised. He believes that in a rapidly changing world, the coaching will provide an essential space to create personal meaning and direction, rather than merely improving one's performance or decision-making. It's this shift he wants to bring about globally.

He has undertaken many coaching programmes including a postgraduate in Psychological Coaching and has been published multiple times in the BACPs Coaching Today. He is an Accredited Master Coach with the Association for Coaching, a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation and a qualified coaching supervisor, having studied under some of the founders of the profession.

Nick’s specific expertise and interest within transformative coaching and supervision lies in on how we shape, define and make sense of our personal identity over time. In developing this theme, he has given talks on Time and Timelessness in Coaching, Working with the Self, Beneath the Surface: Existential Paradigms in Coaching and The Temporal Self: Towards a Unified View of Time and Identity in Coaching.

Perhaps a reflection of his existential urge – a pull to being in the world - Nick loves travel and adventure; the combination of which has led him to cycle unsupported from Land’s End to John o’ Groats and across Europe as well as to trek Everest Base Camp and other Himalayan peaks several times. As well as personally fulfilling, he finds that these journeys trigger significant realisations which he brings back into Animas.

Before starting Animas, Nick founded a company organising events on pressing social issues. Whilst valuable in disseminating ideas, he noticed that simply sharing knowledge rarely seemed to have an impact at a local level.  This led to what his creating what he termed ‘Knowledge Coaching’ which would brought people together for a specific form of action learning. In other words, people facing the same challenge came together to think through a shared problem, learn from each other’s perspectives, and agree actions to take back to their own work. This proved to be more impactful, and Nick then knew that coaching was his thing.

A true entrepreneur as well as coach, Nick co-founded a travel-adventure-coaching business, which took people around the world whilst exploring personal transformative change.  In 2008, somewhat frustrated by the lack of high-quality training options for those wanting to be coaches, Nick founded his own coaching school: Animas.

The rest, as they say, is history!
